4 Things to Focus On in 2010
Hundreds of e-tailers listened to the latest MyBuys sponsored webinar, "4 Things To Focus On in 2010," presented on September 16. Featured speakers were Sucharita Mulpuru, Vice President and Principal Analyst, Forrester Research, and Andrew Koven, President e-commerce and Customer Experience from Steve Madden, Ltd.
Sucharita's "four things" were social tactics, product-detail-page improvements, mobile accessibility, and checkout fixes. She offered valuable tips on how to prioritize social media efforts (ratings and reviews, retailer blogs and microblogs rated highest); what features matter on the product-detail page (including recommendations powered by a third-party and manufacturer-driven content); what shoppers are purchasing on their mobile devices and how to connect with them; and taking advantage of new opportunities at checkout, such as online chat—a particular favorite with Gen Xers and broadband users.
Andrew's 2010 theme was One to-One, and he discussed Steve Madden's strategy for the four areas Sucharita focused on. His company's social media strategy is already highly evolved with Facebook pages, a Twitter page, and a blog by the Steve Madden himself. More YouTube videos and Steve Madden Music will appear in 2010, extending the company's reach to key audiences. Steve Madden's mobile strategy includes fully mobilizing the site, supporting all platforms and implementing a multi-channel strategy. His closing thoughts, in an ABC format, were Always Be Asking, Benchmark Best Practices and Share Them, and Communicate Constantly.
